The index covers the influential properties of lightness and heaviness proposed in Chapter Two. Each property has been assigned a unique symbol, which will remain at the same position throughout the book on pages where that property occurs in the spread. All the symbols for properties associated with lightness occur on the left page, while weighty ones are placed on the right. By using this system, readers can trace one property and navigate across different chapters.
